Awards Gala - Niagara Association of Realtors

I recently started attending almost every event I can related to Real Estate. The change for me was one of my long term goals in work and personal life and that goal is; “I should always try to better myself”. Last month was one of those events. I was attending the 2016 Awards Gala for the Niagara Association of Realtors® (NAR). It was the second year in a row that I was nominated for the Social Media Award of Excellence which was an extreme honour, not only because we have over 1,000 members of the Niagara Association of Realtors®, but also because so many of my peers are really talented, innovative and do some amazing things with Social Media in our industry.

Upon arriving the first thing on the list was to take a selfie with an amazing backdrop (okay maybe not amazing) but how often can you take a selfie with a city skyline behind you from inside of a hotel building? #amazing right? (Photo cred: myself)

As the night went on we enjoyed a superb dinner from the friendly staff at The Americana Resort in Niagara Falls, I really enjoyed the great conversation and stories with my colleagues from many offices all over the Niagara Region. And then it came time for the awards portion of the evening and when they announced the Social Media Award, I was announced the winner. I was so extremely thrilled inside (partly because social media is fun and getting any award for having fun is just plain awesome) and partly because I really strive to bring a great experience to all users in social media by marketing properties and providing information in a unique and fun way.

As I walked up to receive the award I noticed they had a special song playing “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. This caused me to laugh as last summer I made a lip sync video to that song as part of my entry in a Coldwell Banker Contest. This was no coincidence as I am sure the people running the show knew about the video, and all I could do was tip my hat and laugh.

(trust me its worth it)

Just before shaking hands with the President of the Niagara Association of Realtors® “Stephen Oliver” and receiving the award, I did what I feel anyone receiving a social media award should do and that is "take a selfie while receiving the award" you know.. for future social media use of course! I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate the other award winners on a job well done!
